What is Marvel Snap?

Over the last two decades, the Marvel universe has redefined cinema, TV, gaming, and superhero collectibles. Arguably, the standout game from the Marvel universe is Marvel Snap, a PC and mobile-playable card battler game. Since the release of Marvel Snap (MSnap) on June 9,  2022, the online collectible card game has exploded in popularity globally.

Its straightforward and intuitive gameplay has made it a real treat for fans. Marvel Snap now boasts more than 10 million registered players globally. Thanks to this success, Forbes named it the highest-grossing digital card game for 2023 after surpassing the $100 million mark.

The Gameplay

Players of the game can create decks with 12 cards comprising various Marvel superheroes and supervillains. Each card features one character, each with their own unique abilities. Moreover, every card possesses an energy cost (ranging from 1 to 6) and a power level, yet no health.

Players use their decks to complete short, three-minute rounds for control over three distinct locations. On turn one, the players have 1 Energy each and 2 Energy on turn two, advancing to 6 Energy on turn six.

The player that controls two locations after six turns (or seven battles in special instances) wins the battle and is duly awarded.

What is YellowJacket?

YellowJacket is one of Marvel Snap’s only two zero-cost cards – the other is Wasp.

Type: Character

Cost: 0

Power: 2

Ability: Upon reveal, the card imposes a -1 power reduction on your other cards within the same location.

YellowJacket’s power reduction ability has meant that many players avoid playing it, relegating it to underdog status. However, the card is highly versatile and influential when played right. The best way to play YellowJacket is to his own location, whereby you will receive 2 Power for free. Contrastingly, Wasp only offers 1 Power with no extra perks, all for 0 Energy.

If you can figure out a way to prevent your other cards from losing their powers, you can play YellowJacket whenever and wherever you wish. Since it has 0 Cost, it can be played in any turn without diminishing Energy.

YellowJacket Variants

There are YellowJacket variants, including the Standard Variant. On the other hand, Wasp has six variants in addition to the Standard variant. Hopefully, more YellowJacket variants will be unveiled soon. The four YellowJacket variants are:

YellowJacket BaseArt Variant

The BaseArt variant is the most common YellowJacket character. It was created by Simone Buonfantino as the artist and Ryan Kinnaird as the colorist. The character on a card is levitating mid-air in a dominantly combative stance with what looks like a city street. The character variant was released on February 7, 2023.

YellowJacket Pixel Variant

As its name suggests, this YelllowJacket card variant features a pixilated character. It’s a rare variant with a value of 700 Gold. The character appears running, likely towards action. The Pixel variant was created by G-Angle and released on September 19, 2023.

YellowJacket Comic-Style Variant

This Comic-Style variant features a dreamy pink and gold background. The character on the card seems to be doing a celebratory dance, complimenting the background’s relaxed atmosphere. The color combination of his outfit is more yellow than black, giving a less sinister look.

This introductory YellowJacket variant was created by Nikita Cizmesija and released on May 7, 2022, about a month before the game’s release. The Comic-Style variant card is quite rare, with a value of 700 Gold.

YellowJacket SteamPunk Variant

This SteamPunk variant is an event-limited card, meaning it is only accessible in the SteamPunk event, making it quite rare. The character on the card is more aggressive than the other variants, seemingly on the attack of whoever is outside the frame.

The card varied was developed by Marci Itri as the artist, with Ryan Kinnaird as the colorist, and released on February 7, 2023. His outfit is stunning and similar to the original but features spectacular wires around his body. The outfit’s design perfectly fits the SteamPunk realm motif.

YellowJacket SuperRare BaseArt Variant

The Base Art variant was the introductory card for YellowJacket, released on May 7, 2022, slightly before the game’s release. The character on the card is in a volcanic setting and has a  “ready-to-fight” stance. His outfit is overly black with limited yellow accents, indicating a lot of sinister. Fahmi Fauzi created this variant, and it is super rare, with a value of 1,200 Gold.

Acquiring YellowJacket in MSnap

Obtaining YellowJacket in Marvel Snap is a daunting undertaking. You must ascend to Pool 3 to unlock the character. However, you can only access the character after Collection Level 486. Keep in mind that the cards are randomly assigned to you. Therefore, it’s challenging to know when you will receive YellowJacket.

Best YellowJacket Msnap Combos

The most suitable card combinations for YellowJacket include:

Zero

Type: Character

Cost: 3

Power: 3

Ability: Once revealed, it eliminates abilities from the following card you play.

Zero offers the best combination for cards with disadvantageous abilities, like YellowJacket. By playing Zero, followed by YellowJacket, you freeze YellowJacket’s ability. Therefore, you will get 2 Power for free with no caveats. However, a catch exists. Other cards you play together with Yellowjacket in the same turn will also have their abilities frozen.

Colossus

Type: Character

Cost: 2

Power: 3

Ability: Ongoing indestructibility as its power can’t be diminished or moved.

Colossus is the ideal play in locations with ongoing power-reduction abilities. For this reason, it’s an excellent combo play for YellowJacket. This combo has a total of 2 Cost and 5 Power. You can obtain Colossus in the Recruit Season, meaning you can utilize the combo as soon as you acquire YellowJacket.

Valkyrie

Type: Character

Cost: 3

Power: 3

Ability: Upon reveal, it optimizes all cards on location to 3 Power.

Valkyrie is a suitable plate with cards or locations that impose negative Power, such as YellowJacket. Playing this combo means Power for all locations will be increased to 3. However, for this to happen, a YellowJacket play must be played before Valkyrie. Furthermore, you should avoid playing this combo in locations with cards with higher than 3 Power. You can also play this combo with cards like Hazmat.

Best YellowJacket Play Locations

YellowJacket plays thrive in specific locations such as:

Atlantis

Effect: When left with one card here, it automatically gains a +5 Power.

Generally, Atlantis gives you more power the fewer cards you have. Whenever you are at this location with one card, 5 Power will be added to the Power of the remaining card. When played with YellowJacket, there is 0 Cost, and the total Power rises to 7. Moreover, since there will be other cards in the location, the diminishing ability of YellowJacket won’t be triggered.

Death’s Domain

Effect: Any card you play here gets destroyed.

The location destroys any card played within it, making it perfect for discarding a YellowJacket card with no foreseeable use. Keep in mind that some cards and decks might benefit from the destruction of YellowJacket. For instance, destroying a YellowJacket minimizes the cost of death.

Knowhere

Effect: Upon reveal, the ability of any card is frozen.

Knowhere is an excellent YellowJacket play location since it freezes the abilities of any cards played within. Therefore, Yellowjacket’s ability will not be activated when played here. Since all cards are rendered ineffective in Knowhere, it is best to keep advantageous cards out of the location.

Final Verdict

YellowJacket MSnap cards are unique compared to other cards in the game. This uniqueness makes YellowJacket quite an effective card when played well. Fortunately, you have the knowledge to play the card to its full potential.
